In 1994, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), published the Principles for Effective Governance. Since their release, the principles have defined for governing bodies worldwide a foundational governing framework, clear expectations or governance engagement by board members, and a delineation of governance versus management responsibilities.

BSA Review and Update


The Bank Secrecy Act was established in 1970 to monitor the use of cash transactions in relation to criminal activity. It requires financial institutions to invest their resources to be compliant, and this PreConference explains what is required and how to fulfill these requirements.


Since the establishment of BSA, our landscape has changed significantly presenting new threats, concerns and regulations. In recent years, cannabis based businesses have emerged and are flourishing. The introduction of convertible virtual currency brings new issues, and just in the past year, many crimes have been committed related to COVID-19. These are only a few examples of how every part of our culture and business climate are affected by BSA.

Credit unions must be in compliance. and the board of directors are responsible for ensuring that the credit union maintains an effective internal control structure supporting and enforcing the Act. Directors must have an informed understanding of the act and they must be certified each year with a current review and its requirements for financial institutions. This PreConference fulfills that requirement.
